In the mixture of (NaHCO(3)+Na(2)CO(3)) ...

In the mixture of `(NaHCO_(3)+Na_(2)CO_(3))` volume of HCl required is x mL with phenolphthalein indicator and then y mL with methyl orange indicator in same titration Hence, volume of HCl for complete reaction of `Na_(2)CO_(3)` is

A

`2x`

B

`y`

C

`(x)/(2)`

D

`(y-x)`

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

The correct Answer is:
D

With phenolphthalein indicator: `NaHCO_(3)` does not react with HCl whereas `Na_(2)CO_(#)` reacts upto `NaHCO_(3)` stage `(50%` reaction).
`V_(HCl)=x mL`
(ii). With methyl orange indicator : `NaHCO_(3)` reacts completely with HCl and with `Na_(2)CO_(3)` is `100%` reaction. But y " mL of " HCl is added after `Na_(2)CO_(3)` has reacted upto `NaHCO_(3)`. (i.e., half titre value of `Na_(2)CO_(3)`)
`V_(HCl)=` Full titre value of `NaHCO_(3)+` half titre value of `Na_(2)CO_(3)`.
`ymL=` full titre value of `NaHCO_(3)+x mL`
Full titre value of `NaHCO_(3)=(y-x)mL`

A sample of NaHCO_(3) + Na_(2)CO_(3) required 20 ml of HCl using phenolphthalein as indicator and 35ml more required if methyl orange is used as indicator . Then molar ratio of NaHCO_(3) to Na_(2)CO_(3) is

30 " mL of " a solution of mixture of Na_2CO_3 and NaHCO_3 required 12 " mL of " 0.05 M H_2SO_4 using phenolphthalein as indicator. With methyl orange 30 " mL of " the same solution required 40 " mL of " same H_2SO_4 . Calculate the amount of Na_2CO_3 and NaHCO_3 per litre in the mnixture.

A mixutre solution of KOH and Na_2CO_3 requires 15 " mL of " (N)/(20) HCl when titrated with phenolphthalein as indicator. But the same amoound of the solutions when titrated with methyl orange as indicator requires 25 " mL of " the same acid. Calculate the amount of KOH and Na_2CO_3 present in the solution.

When Na_(2)CO_(3) solution is titrated against HCl solution, the indicator used is

A mixture NaOH+Na_(2)CO_(3) required 25mL of 0.1 M HCl using phenolpththalein as the indicator. However, the same amount of the mixture required 30mL of 0.1M HCl when methyl orange was used as the indicator. The molar ration of NaOH and Na_(2)CO_(3) in the mixture was:

Assertion: In the titration of Na_(2)CO_(3) with HCl using methyl orange indicator, the volume of acid required is twice that of the acid required using phenolphthalein as indicaton. Reason: Two moles of HCl are required for the complete neutralisation of one mole of Na_(2)CO_(3) .
