A cotton reel rolls without sliding such that the point `P` of the string has velocity `v = 6 ms^(-1)`. If `r = 10 cm` and `R = 20 cm` then find the:

angular velocity of the cotton reel

Text Solution

Verified by Experts

As cotton reel rolls point of contact of reel witground will acts as instantaneous axis of rotation

`v_(P)=w(R+r)`
`implies omega=(v_(p))/(R+r)=20rad//s`
Velocity of centre of reel,
`v_(C)=omegaR=(v_(P)R)/((R+r))=(6xx20)/((20+10))=4m//s`
