(a) Define the terms osmosis and osmotic pressure. Is the osmotic pressure of a solution a colligative property? Explain.
(b) Calculate the boiling point of a solution prepared by adding `15.00g` of `NaCl` to `250.0g` of water. (`K_(b)` for water `=0.512K kg "mol"^(-1)`, Molar mass of `NaCl=58.44g`)

The correct Answer is:
(a) Osmosis and osmotic pressure:
Osmosis- The spontaneous flow of solvent particles from solvent side to solution side or from solution of low con. Side to solution of high conc. Side through a semipermeable membrane `=(SPM)`
Osmotic Pressure- It is the pressure of the solution column that can prevent the entry of solvent molecules through a permeable membrane, when the solution and the solvent are separated by the same. It is shown by `pi.` It's unit is `mm` of `Hg` of atmosphere.
Yes, the osmotic pressure of a solution a colligative property as its depend on the total no. of particles or total conc. of particles in the solution
Colligative property: The osomotic pressure method has the advantage over other method as pressure measurement is around the room temperature and molarity of the solution is used instead of molality. As compare to other colligative properties. its magnitude is large for every dilute solution
(b) Elevation in boiling point
`DeltaT_(b)=(K_(b)xx1000xxW_(B))/(W_(A)xxM_(B))=(0.512xx1000xx15)/(250xx58.44)=(512})/(974)=0.5266^(@)C`
Boiling point of water `=100^(@)C=100.52566`
So, Boiling point of solution=100.52566`
