A zener diode has a breakdown voltage o...

A zener diode has a breakdown voltage of 10 V and is used in a voltage regulator circuit as shown in the given figure what will be current through the diode

Text Solution

Excess voltage over 10 V will appear across the 200 `Sigma` resistance
Voltage across 200 `Sigma` resistance =20 V- 10 V
Current through the 200 `Sigma` resistance `i_(B) = (10)/(200) = 0.05A`
New voltage across 1 k `Sigma` load resistance `=10 V`
Current through the Zener diode `i_(R) -i_(L)`
=40 mA
