Pseudo first order reaction : An higher reaction but following first order kinetics under special conditions is called pseudo first order reaction. Consider a chemical reaction between two substances when one reactant is present in excess. Example : Acid hydrolysis of ethyl acetate. During the hydrolysis of 0.01 mol ethyl acetate with 10 mol of water. The ceoncentration of water does not get altered much during the course of the reaction, the term `(H_(2)O)` can be taken as constant.

The reaction behaves as first order reaction. Such reactions are called as pseudo first order reactions.
