2.0About MSBSHSE & SSC / Context

The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) is a self-governing body that holds and manages the Class 10 (SSC) and Class 12 (HSC) examinations throughout the state.

The panel prescribes the syllabus, prepares the books, and finally decides on the format, the paper pattern, and the marking standards. The present syllabus aims to deepen the student's understanding of the concepts and encourage the application of the learned material rather than the mere memorisation of the content.

6.0Internal / Practical / Project Assessment Details

The 20 Marks allocated for Internal Assessment (IA) are crucial. These marks are awarded by the school and reflect the student's continuous performance.

Subject Category

Assessment Component

Marks Breakdown

Science

Practical Examination & Assignments

10 Marks (Practical Lab Work) + 10 Marks (Journal/Viva/Project)

Languages

Oral Tests & Subject Enrichment

10 Marks (Oral Examination/Speaking Skills) + 10 Marks (Assignments/Activities)

Mathematics

Project Work & Activities

20 Marks (Assessed through periodic tests, portfolio, assignments, and subject enrichment activities)

Social Science

Projects & Portfolios

20 Marks (Assessed through term-end assignments, projects, and multiple assessments)

These marks rely on the student's involvement in class, timely completion of projects/journal work, and performance in internal tests.

7.0How to Use the MSBSHSE Syllabus & Pattern for Planning

  1. Prioritize the Application of the 80/20 Rule: Realize that an 80-mark theory exam requires deep understanding of concepts, while a 20-mark internal component can be managed regularly through school submissions and good conduct.
  2. Concentrate on Weak Subjects First (35% Pass Limit): The minimum pass mark in each subject is 35%. Decide wisely to concentrate on subjects in which you are likely to fail, before aiming for overall division of honor.
  3. Topic Weightage Mapping: Spend more of your study time on the topics that have more weight (for example, in Maths, Algebra and Geometry are usually of equal weight and should be covered thoroughly).
  4. Get Speed through Practice: Since theory papers carry 80 marks and are of 3 hours duration, try to complete full-length papers within the given time to speed up and increase writing stamina.

8.0Updates to Syllabus / Pattern (if any)

MSBSHSE is mostly following the 80 (Theory) + 20 (Internal) pattern.

  • Recent Updates: It has been talked about and proposed that the pass marks for core subjects such as Mathematics and Science may be lowered in the next years; however, the current session's standing rule is still 35% overall. It is advisable to always verify the most recent circulars on the official MSBSHSE portal to be sure of the exact changes in the policy.

One of the most important moves towards success is understanding the MSBSHSE syllabus and exam pattern. Use this system to:

  • Download Subject-wise Syllabus PDFs of the board free of cost from mahahsscboard.in.
  • Manage your study time based on the distribution of the marks.
  • Practice writing your answers matching the question type (short/long answer) of the pattern.

All the best with your preparation!
