Preparation Tips

Top Preparation Tips for MSBSHSE Class 12 Exams (2025–26)

Preparing for the MSBSHSE Class 12 (HSC) School Board Examinations can be done properly and effectively with a sensible and structured plan. If you use the proper study materials, plan your study approach, practice on past papers and have good health, then every student will be able to improve their marks and confidently give the examination.

This complete guide will include fundamental principles for HSC preparation, subject-wise preparation tips, answer-writing skills, time management and key mistakes to avoid.

1.0Core Principles for Daily Study

  • Focus on the Board Syllabus- Learn the syllabus of the Maharashtra board thoroughly. Focus on the complex chapters which contain marks that frequently appear in the past exams.
  • Study Actively- Rather than just reading, solve questions, write answers, use three or four minutes, and revise mainly actively.

Use Limited but Quality Study Material - Your best study resources are:

  • Maharashtra HSC Textbooks
  • One quality reference book per subject
  • Last 10 years’ board question papers

Improve Weak Areas First- In order to grasp less difficult topics, strengthen important but difficult topics first, rather than starting with small or low weightage chapters.

Take Care of Your Health

  • Sleep 6–7 hours
  • Exercise for 20–30 minutes
  • Hydrate well
  • Take short breaks every hour

2.0Subject-Wise Preparation Tips

Approaching study for the MSBSHSE Class 12 (HSC) examination, students should adopt an organized plan of working that aligns conceptual understanding with practice / consistent practice and revision. The best strategies facilitate learning by improving efficiency within chapter-based study time, across all subjects.

English

  • Prepare 6–8 model long answers with structured introduction/s and conclusion/s.
  • Practice unseen passages and unseen summaries with a timer.
  • Work on improving your grammar, vocabulary, or handwriting to gain marks.

Marathi / Hindi

  • Know the structure of writing a letter, writing an essay, or writing a précis.
  • Memorise idioms, phrases, proverbs and grammar to improve writing.
  • Prepare one model essay answer per important theme.

Mathematics

  • Focus on important chapters more: Calculus, Probability, coordinate geometry.
  • Repeat your work on previous year board questions.
  • Learn standard steps and shortcuts for all problem types.
  • Clearly show your method and box your answers neatly.

3.0Physics / Chemistry / Biology

Physics

  • Practice numericals and derivations here each day.
  • Keep a separate notebook for important formulae.

Chemistry

  • Revise mechanisms of reaction and important numericals and elements and paired conditions.
  • Memorise definitions and conversions.

Biology

  • Keep rewriting diagrams which need to be formatted in a neat, labelled way.
  • Use headings and subpoints for your long answers. You will also need to support with / use relevant examples.
  • Write definitions and key terminology.

4.0Commerce / Economics / Accounts

Accounts

  • Practice posting a ledger, depreciation methods and journal entries, and reconciliations.
  • Eliminate mistakes in repeated calculations/issues.

Economics

  • Write perfect definitions and labelled diagrams.
  • Practice Macro numericals and case based questions.

5.0Answer-Writing & Presentation Tips

Greater proficiency in writing answers can greatly affect performance in board examinations. Students should always write answers with systematic headings, sub points and numbering consistent with the question. Important terms within the answer should be underlined to assist the examiner with the meaning of the progression of ideas.

When answering longer answers of 5 to 10 marks, students should consider starting with a brief introduction and then explaining the concept carefully and using an orderly and systematic approach and adding a brief conclusion to finalise the answer. Neat hand writing and spaced out paragraphs assist with good presentation.

Students must bear in mind the marking scheme - short sharp answers and longer answers with some detail but not the writing of a novel.

6.0Diagram Practice Tips

  • Diagrams are an important part of study for subjects such as Biology, Geography, Physics and Chemistry. If students are to achieve full marks, it is important to do practice drawing neat proportionate diagrams regularly. Diagrams should be drawn with a pencil and then labelled clearly and with straight lines in pen to enhance visibility.
  •  Appropriately labelling items is very important, as such marks can be lost simply because items are missing labels.  Students should get in the habit of completing diagram-based questions in past board papers as means of familiarizing themselves with them and the sort of expectations the exam will contain.  Moreover, neat, clean, and accurate diagrams with proper alignment as per the response page are more engaging for the marker and as a result, should score higher.

7.0Time Management Strategies

  • Organizing time during the exam is crucial so that each question is given their appropriate time without needing to rush to finish the paper.  The rationale for time allocation should be based on marks—for example, spending no more than 2–3 minutes on a one-mark question.
  • Long-answer questions can be given more time.  Each standing mark represents ten, 12, or more hours of learning content, so it is imperative that that time is managed so that the assessment is completed without time management needing to cause greater anxiety.
  • It may be best to complete the paper, starting with short and easy questions to build momentum and obtain marks quickly, followed by long answer or otherwise difficult questions.
  • Saving the last 10–15 minutes for reviewing the response sheet enables correction of missing items that had not been labelled or unclear responses, and unknown tasks.  Full length papers should be completed under examination conditions in practice ahead of time to develop speed, accuracy, and confidence.

8.0Common Mistakes to Avoid

  • Many students lose marks due to some simple but costly mistakes. One big mistake is studying all chapters superficially instead of drilling down on what is most important, most often examined, and therefore highest weightage.
  • Another mistake that is commonly seen is not doing past papers, even though the board many times asks question types and patterns that are either repeated or similar every year. You should also avoid "last-minute" all-night study sessions before the exam because of the poor memory, writing speed, and careless mistakes the night before will create.
  • There is also a risk investing time in an exam before you practice writing full papers under time pressure. You risk not finishing the paper on time, without the practice of doing so.
  • Eliminating the mistakes mentioned above and developing a structured time and task plan will help you take all important concepts, and your study performance will hence be that much better through this valuable discipline.

9.0Motivation & Mindset

  • A positive and disciplined attitude when preparing for the MSBSHSE Class 12 exams is vital for success. Students should be treating each day as a mini exam cycle by planning the day, practising confidently, reviewing any mistakes, and consistently improving.
  • Dedicated and disciplined study for 30 days can see a major increase in scores, so students should visualise themselves being confident during the exam and completing the test within the given time limits, as this will lower stress and build mental strength.
  • Keeping the attitude of being practically positive, not overly confident, and not overly anxious, allows for a good balance of focus.

10.0Quick Resource Checklist

  • In order to prepare adequately for the MSBSHSE Class 12 exams, students should utilize a variety of best possible study resources. The most important study resource is the Maharashtra HSC textbook, which provides the framework of the board exam syllabus, along with the content that students would be expected to understand for the board exams. In conjunction to textbooks, a good guide book or reference book may be used in addition to the textbook for the extra clarity needed for comprehension of the content
  • Practicing the last ten years’ board papers with the solutions is an important and effective way for students to acclimate to the question format and prepare for accuracy in their responses. Flash cards, formula sheets, and one-page notes are also useful for efficient revision to maintain the revision element, and are particularly helpful in the last weeks leading up to the exams.
  • Having a structured revision schedule in addition to all of the study resources mentioned will enable students to study as thoroughly as possible and the best they can
