1.0Introduction

Notice Writing

One of the most important forms of writing 'NOTICE' is widely used by individuals, institutions and organisations to announce events and celebrations, occasions like inaugurations or sales to make appeals and to issue public instructions. Most notices are meant to be pinned up or pasted on special boards meant for the purpose.

An effective notice usually includes the following: (i) Name of the organisation, institution or office issuing it. (ii) Date of issuing the notice. (iii) Eye-catching caption indicating the purpose of notice. (iv) Signature/Name and designation of the person issuing the notice.

You are Anupam, the editor of school magazine, and want to hold an inter class competition to collect poems and cartoons for the magazine. Draft a notice, for the school notice board inviting entries. Mention all details required like entry dates, prizes etc.

HOLY CHRIST SCHOOL, DELHI NOTICE May, 20xx

INTER-CLASS COMPETITION There will be an inter-class competition for collecting poems, cartoons etc. for the school magazine, on June, 20xx at 1 PM in the school hall. Students willing to participate should give their names to the undersigned by June, 20xx. Anupam Anupam (Editor)

5.0Recall

  1. A notice is a public announcement made by a person or an organization in writing to inform concerned people within the organization about some activity, meeting, allotment of duty, rules and regulations.
  2. A notice is a formal piece of composition. So it has to be formal in style and must contain only relevant details.
  3. A notice is usually written in the third person. For some notices you may use the first or second person but avoid using the first person singular, that is, I. If you have to use the first person, use the plural form, that is, we.
