1.0NTA Latest Advisory for NEET 2026 Candidates
NTA has released latest advisory for NEET 2026 candidates:
In case biometric verification cannot be completed at the examination centre due to technical issues, poor fingerprint quality, connectivity issues, or medical conditions, candidates are advised not to panic.
NTA has laid down a provision for such situations:
• Manual identity verification will be conducted using valid documents.
• An undertaking form will be available at the centre with the Centre Superintendent/Observer.
• Candidates will be guided through the process and allowed to appear for the examination after due verification.
Candidates are advised to remain calm and cooperate with officials at the centre.
2.0NEET 2026 Exam Schedule and Reporting Time
The exam is conducted in a single shift, in an offline (pen-and-paper) format, lasting 3 hours. To avoid the chaotic rush at the last moment and ensure adequate time for mandatory security frisking, candidates must report to the exam centre well in advance.
Detailed Timeline for NEET 2026 Exam Day (May 3, 2026):

4.0Strict NEET Dress Code for 2026: Male & Female Guidelines
Because of the massive scale of the exam and past instances of unfair means, the NTA implements one of the strictest dress codes among all competitive exams in India. Non-compliance with the dress code is the leading cause of delays, stress, and sometimes denial of entry on exam day.
Customary and Religious Dress Rule:
The NTA respects the religious sentiments of candidates. Aspirants who wear customary dresses (such as a Hijab, Burqa, or Turban) due to religious commitments are allowed to do so.
However, they must have selected the "Customary Dress" option while filling out the NEET 2026 application form. Furthermore, these candidates are required to report to the exam centre at least one hour earlier (around 11:30 AM to 12:00 PM) to allow sufficient time for thorough, respectful frisking by security personnel.
5.0Banned and Prohibited Items (What NOT to Carry)
To maintain the sanctity of the examination, the NTA has a comprehensive list of barred items. Exam centres do not provide cloakroom or locker facilities to store your belongings, so it is highly advised to leave these items at home or hand them over to your accompanying parents/guardians.
Do NOT carry the following items:
- Stationery Items: Pens, pencils, erasers, sharpeners, scales, geometry/pencil boxes, writing pads, log tables, books, or any printed/written pieces of paper. (A ballpoint pen will be provided to you inside the exam hall by the invigilator.
- Electronic Gadgets: Mobile phones, digital/smartwatches, Bluetooth devices, earphones, fitness bands, micro-cameras, calculators, pagers, or USB drives.
- Personal Accessories: Handbags, backpacks, wallets, belts, goggles, and caps.
- Food & Beverages: Packed or loose eatables, chocolates, and opaque water bottles (except for permitted diabetic patients)
6.0Security Protocols and Examination Hall Procedures
Once you cross the centre gates, you will undergo security checks. To ensure a fair and secure testing environment, the NTA has implemented strict safety and anti-cheating measures at all exam centres.:
- Metal Detectors: Every student will be thoroughly checked using handheld metal detectors before entering the exam hall.
- Biometric Verification: Your fingerprints (and sometimes iris scans) will be captured to verify your identity and stop impersonation.
- CCTV Surveillance: The entire exam centre, including every classroom, is constantly monitored and recorded through CCTV cameras.
- Signal Jammers: Mobile networks, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi signals are completely blocked inside the exam centre using high-tech jammers.
- AI Monitoring: The NTA uses advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools in real-time to detect any suspicious behavior or use of unfair means.
- Re-checking After Breaks: If you use the washroom (only allowed during specific times), you will have to undergo physical frisking and biometric checks all over again before returning to your seat.
7.0Important OMR Sheet Guidelines
Since the NEET is entirely an OMR-based offline test, filling out your answer sheet correctly is the most critical step of the day.
- Use only the black or blue ballpoint pen provided by the invigilator at the exam centre.
- Fill all required particulars (Roll Number, Test Booklet Number, Booklet Code) carefully in the designated boxes and bubble them in accurately.
- Since the exam carries a negative marking of -1 for every incorrect answer (and +4 for correct answers), do not make stray marks on the OMR sheet.
- Never use correction fluid (white-out), erasers, or blades on the OMR sheet. Once a bubble is darkened, it cannot be changed.
8.0Guidelines for Leaving the Exam Hall
The bell will ring at exactly 5:00 PM to mark the conclusion of the exam. It is important to maintain proper discipline and decorum. Follow these final instructions before leaving the centre:
- Stay Seated: Do not stand up or rush to the door immediately. Remain in your seat and patiently wait for the invigilator's instructions.
- Exit One by One: To avoid chaos and crowding, the invigilators will only allow candidates to leave the classroom one at a time in an orderly fashion.
- Hand Over Mandatory Documents: Before stepping out, you must hand over your original OMR Answer Sheet.
