2.0Important Concepts of Class 9 Science Chapter 5: Exploring Mixtures and Their Separation        

Classification of Matter    

The chapter begins by classifying matter into pure substances and mixtures. A pure substance has a fixed composition and a definite set of properties. A mixture consists of two or more substances physically combined without a chemical change. The components of a mixture keep their individual properties and can be separated by suitable physical methods.

Properties and Types of Mixtures    

The chapter is devoted to the fact that mixtures are substances of different composition and their properties depend on the nature and quantitative ratio of components. A homogeneous mixture is uniform throughout in terms of composition . A heterogeneous mixture is non uniform in composition and the different components can be seen separately .

Solutions and Their Components    

Students learn that solutions are homogeneous mixtures of a solvent and a solute. The solute is the substance that gets dissolved and the solvent is the substance that does the dissolving. Concentration and Solubility of Solutions    

The chapter explains concentration as the amount of solute present in a given quantity of solution. Suspensions and Colloids
