CBSE Class 9 Social Science Syllabus 2026-27 [Revised]

The CBSE Class 9 Social Science Syllabus is designed to make students understand the roots of society, politics, economics, and geography. 1.0Introduction to CBSE Class 9 Syllabus for Social Science

In CBSE Class 9, the CBSE syllabus diverges into four main units of humanities, each exploring different areas of Social studies. These include: 

  • History 
  • Geography
  • Political Science 
  • Economics 

Each of these units explores different areas of social studies, from events of historical importance in the world to important geographical features of India. The students are evaluated via a series of theory exams and internal assessments with a maximum of 80 and 20 marks, respectively.

2.0Chapter–wise Weightage of Social Science Class 9 Syllabus

As per the latest CBSE guidelines based on NEP 2020 and NCF-SE 2023, the Social Science curriculum for Class 9 follows an integrated and competency-based approach.

Prescribed NCERT Textbooks:

  • Social Science – Part 1 (NCERT)
  • Social Science – Part 2 (NCERT)

These books cover core subjects including History, Geography, Civics, and Economics in a structured and interdisciplinary manner. The detailed chapter-wise content of these newly structured textbooks is not yet fully available on the official NCERT website. Once the updated chapters are officially released, the complete syllabus and chapter list will be updated here for students.

3.0Detailed CBSE Class 9 Social Science 2026-27 Syllabus 

As per the latest CBSE update, a new Social Science curriculum has been introduced for the 2026–27 session based on NEP 2020 and NCF-SE 2023. The revised syllabus focuses on an integrated and competency-based approach, combining concepts from History, Geography, Civics, and Economics.

However, the complete chapter-wise details of the updated Social Science textbooks are not yet available on the official NCERT website. Once the chapters are officially released, they will be updated here for students. Below we are providing the course outline for the new syllabus.

Social Science – Part 1 (NCERT)

2. Shaping of the Earth’s Surface

Plate Tectonics; Interior of the Earth; Weathering and Erosion; Landforms and Natural Disasters (Earthquakes, GLOF).

3. Atmosphere and Climate

Structure and composition; Indian Monsoon; Climate Change; Floods and Carbon Footprint.

4. Early Humans & Civilisation

Prehistoric history; Palaeolithic to Neolithic transition; Harappan, Mesopotamian, Egyptian, and Chinese cultures.

5. State and Society

(upto 1000 CE)

Vedic Age; Administrative structures of early empires; Knowledge traditions; Trade routes and Guilds.

6. Democracy

Meaning and types; Roots of democracy in India; Parliamentary vs. Presidential systems.

7. Elections

Electoral systems; Election Commission of India (ECI); Delimitation; Party systems and Coalitions.

8. Building Blocks in Economics

Scarcity of resources; Opportunity Cost; Market vs. Planned vs. Mixed economies.

9. The Price Puzzle

Laws of Demand and Supply; Equilibrium price; Market failures (Public goods, Externalities).

Social Science – Part 2 (NCERT)

1. Oceans and Life

Ocean relief; Tides and Currents; Marine resources; International maritime rules.

2. Life on Earth

Biomes; Biosphere reserves in India; Forest and Wildlife conservation; Ecotourism.

3. Resistance & Resilience (1000–1700 CE)

Regional kingdoms; Art, Architecture, and Literature; Bhakti tradition; Fortifications.

4. India and the World-I (1900 BCE–1200 CE)

Ancient trade (Mesopotamia, Rome, China); Indian Knowledge Systems (Medicine, Math).

5. Authority

Roots in Kautilya and Shukraniti (Danda and Nyaya); Types of authority; Role of citizens.

6. From Ideas to Startups

Entrepreneurship; Startup India/Make in India; MSMEs; Basic accounting (Profit/Loss).

7. Smart Ways to Manage Finance

Personal Finance; Inflation; Simple vs. Compound Interest; Budgeting; Stocks, Bonds, and Taxes.

4.0Internal Assessment

Internal assessments are crucial for evaluating the diverse skills of students throughout the academic year. This includes various methods, the syllabus for which is something like this:
