5.0Useful Study Resources – Go Beyond the Textbooks

Though the NCERT books are the core of understanding class 10th English, depending only on them can restrict your exposure to various question patterns and innovative applications. To ace the final board exam of English, students should include a range of additional study resources that can assist them in improving their grammar and writing abilities. These resources are:

  1. NCERT Solutions: Begin by attempting each exercise from the NCERT books and referencing the NCERT Solutions provided online or in guidebooks. These solutions provide neatly formatted answers that aid in structuring answers properly—something that is important for sections such as literature and writing.
  2. Support Material: These books contain the precise summary of every chapter of both books, Footprints without Feet and First Flight, along with sample question papers and important vocabulary, making them perfect to effectively prepare for the finals.
  3. Grammar Workbooks: Use specialised grammar books that emphasise error correction, editing, and sentence rearrangement to cover the grammar portion of the Syllabus. Oswaal, or High School English Grammar and Composition by Wren and Martin, workbooks are good sources of exercises following the exam pattern.
  4. Sample Papers and PYQs: The practice of solving CBSE sample papers and previous years' question papers enables you to get familiar with the exam pattern and time management. These papers usually adhere to the updated CBSE Syllabus for Class 10 English, and following changes and trends in the paper pattern is easier.
  5. Flashcards & Mind Maps: Make flashcards for key literary terms, figures of speech, and grammar rules. Mind maps are great for chapter summaries or outlining long-answer answers.
  6. Reference Books: Reference books such as Xam Idea, Together With English, and Evergreen include more practice questions, sample answers, and value-based questions as per the CBSE Syllabus for Class 10 English.
