1.0Dr. Homi Bhabha Balvaidnyanik Competition 2024

Dr Homi Bhabha Balvaidnyanik Spardha is a prestigious competition from the Mumbai Science Teachers Association (MSTA) that has been running since 1981. It aims to promote scientific thinking and knowledge among students in the 6th and 9th grades of English and Marathi-medium schools. The competition is open to students from all boards. Around 40,000 students from Maharashtra take the exam each year.

3.0DHBBC Syllabus 2024

To maximize your chances of success in the DHBBC 2024, familiarize yourself with the syllabus thoroughly. Focus your study and preparation primarily on the Maharashtra State Board science textbooks, as most questions will be derived from these sources. Additionally, supplement your studies with content from ICSE, IB, and CBSE books to cover any extra material that may be included.

4.0Eligibility Criteria for the DHBBC 2024 Exam

The Dr. Homi Bhabha Balvaidnyanik Competition is organized exclusively for students in the 6th and 9th grades. Regardless of the educational board they belong to (SSC / CBSE / ICSE / IB, and more), students are invited to showcase their scientific prowess through a series of evaluations.

The competition evaluates participants based on their performance in three key components: 

  • A Written Test
  • A Practical Test
  • An interview

5.0Dr. Homi Bhabha Balvaidnyanik Competition Registration

Take your chance to participate in the Dr. Homi Bhabha Balvaidnyanik Competition! Register yourself for the competition and secure your spot. 

Students can register for the competition online, either through their school or independently. Semi-English section students have the option to choose either English or Marathi as their preferred medium, based on their comfort level. The chosen medium will remain consistent for all subsequent stages of the competition, with no changes allowed as per GBSTA regulations.

Note: Registration through private classes or academies is strictly prohibited.

Student Registration Through Already registered School

  1. Go to www.msta.in and click on 'Apply online for Dr. Homi Bhabha Balvaidnyanik Competition'.
  2. Use your school login ID and password from last year to log in.
  3. Update your school profile and select three preferred centers from the dropdown list. After filling in all details accurately, click on 'AGREE AND SUBMIT'.
  4. Click on 'Pay Students Fees'. Enter the number of students; the amount will be calculated automatically.
  5. You can order the official book for the Dr. Homi Bhabha Balvaidnyanik Competition (each book costs Rs. 250/-). Specify the number of books required by standard and medium in the appropriate boxes; the total amount will be calculated automatically.
  6. Click on 'PAY NOW' to proceed to the Razorpay payment gateway and select your payment method. After paying the fees, log out and re-login after half an hour.
  7. Click on 'Add Students' to register the students. Add students one by one, ensuring all information is correct.

Note: You can edit the school profile and student information and replace student photos until the last date of registration. After August 10th, no further edits will be allowed.

New School Registration

  1. Go to www.msta.in and click on 'Apply online for Dr. Homi Bhabha Balvaidnyanik Competition'.
  2. If your school was not registered last year, click on 'New School Registration'. Fill in all the school details accurately, without using abbreviations or symbols. Provide the complete postal address of the school, including the pincode. Note that GBSTA is not responsible for delays in correspondence due to incomplete addresses. Certificates will be dispatched to this address only.
  3. Select three preferred centers from the dropdown list.
  4. Your login ID and password will be displayed on your screen and will also be sent via SMS to the in-charge teacher's mobile number and emailed to the school. This login ID and password are unique to each school but will be the same for all students (6th and 9th grade) in the school. Save these credentials for future communications.
  5. Click on 'Pay Students Fees'. Enter the number of students; the amount will be calculated automatically.
  6. You can order the official book for the Dr. Homi Bhabha Balvaidnyanik Competition (each book costs Rs. 250). Specify the number of books required in the appropriate box; the total amount will be calculated automatically. 
  7. Click on 'PAY NOW' to proceed to the Razorpay payment gateway and choose your payment method. After paying the fees, log out and then log back in after half an hour.
  8. Click on 'Add Students' to register the students. Add students one by one, ensuring all information is correct.

Note: You can edit the school profile, student information, and replace student photos until the last date of registration. No edits will be allowed after August 10th. Once you receive your login ID and password, have the student list ready in the specified format.

  1. After paying the fees, log back in after half an hour to add students. 
  2. Ensure you have the following for each student:
  • Passport size photo (Maximum 2 MB in jpg, png, jpeg format)
  • Student's email address
  • Student's mobile number (WhatsApp)
  1. After entering the student details, click on 'Expert to Excel'. Print the list of registered students. Confirm the details with the students. If any corrections are needed, use the edit option available until August 10, 2023. You can edit the school profile, student information, and replace student photos until the last date of registration. To edit student information, click on the edit option, make the necessary changes, and submit.

Schools are requested to pay the competition fee online & then register their students.

How to Pay the Competition Fee Online?

You can follow the below steps to complete the online fee process: 

  1. Collect a fee of Rs. 320 per student. Retain Rs. 20 per student as a processing fee for the school. 
  2. Pay the remaining Rs. 300 per student online using the payment gateway. 
  3. Click on 'PAY NOW' to be directed to the Razorpay payment gateway.
  4. Choose your preferred payment method (Net banking, Debit Card, UPI apps).
  5. Fill in all the required details. Click on 'PAY NOW' to complete the transaction.

Individual Student Registration

  1. Go to www.msta.in and click on 'Apply online for Dr. Homi Bhabha Balvaidnyanik Competition'. Click on 'New Individual Registration'.
  2. Enter your mobile number in the appropriate boxes. You will receive an OTP. Enter the OTP in the provided boxes to verify your mobile number. 
  3. Complete the form with the student's details.
  4. Upload the student’s passport size photo and school bonafide certificate by clicking on the provided buttons (Photo size: Maximum 2 MB in jpg, png, jpeg). If you fail to upload the photo and certificate, your registration will be incomplete. To complete the process, you can log in again and follow the same steps until successful.
  5. You can order the official book for the Dr. Homi Bhabha Balvaidnyanik Competition (each book costs Rs. 250). If you select the option to order the book, the amount will be automatically calculated, including courier charges of Rs. 50.
  6. Click on 'PAY NOW' to be directed to the Razorpay payment gateway. Choose your payment method and enter your account details. Click on 'PAY NOW' to complete the transaction.
  7. If your registration is successful, a confirmation will appear on the screen, and you will receive an SMS and email. You can log in using your registered mobile number and OTP to view your registered data. The same login process can be used to view your results.

Next, 60% of candidates will get a Silver Medal, certificate and scholarship of Rs. 2000/-

The remaining candidates will get a Bronze Medal, certificate and scholarship of Rs. 1000/-





7.0Dr. Homi Bhabha Balvaidnyanik Fee Structure

Here is the registration fee structure for the Dr. Homi Bhabha Balvaidnyanik Competition. 

  • For all regions and all types of schools (with regular fee), the registration fee is Rs. 320 
  • For individual student registration (students who are not able to register their name through school), the registration fee is Rs. 500/.

Frequently Asked Questions

The competition consists of a written exam, which tests students’ knowledge of science subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. The exam is usually held in November or December.
