YUva VIgyani KAryakram (YUVIKA)

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has launched an ambitious initiative called the YUva VIgyani KAryakram (YUVIKA), which translates to "Young Scientist Programme".  Launched in 2019, YUVIKA has successfully captivated the minds of thousands of aspiring scientists, transforming them into ambassadors of space science and technology.  This meticulously crafted program aims to ignite a passion for space science and technology among young students, particularly those from rural areas, by providing them with a comprehensive understanding of these fascinating fields. ISRO provides a golden opportunity for selected candidates to spend a couple of weeks during their summer vacation at various ISRO/DOS centers across India.

1.0YUva VIgyani KAryakram: Overview

The ISRO-sponsored Young Scientists Programme YUVIKA,  is a two-week residential programme for high school students.  By nurturing the curiosity and passion of young minds, YUVIKA aims to shape future talents in space exploration and contribute to the advancement of our nation.

In the year 2024, A total of 350  students from all 28 Indian states and 8 union territories participated in the program across seven ISRO centers which are as follows: 

  1. Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), Dehradun.
  2. Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), Thiruvananthapuram.
  3. Satish Dhavan Space Center (SDSC) Sriharikota.
  4. U. R. Rao Satellite Centre (URSC), Bengaluru.
  5. Space Applications Centre (SAC), Ahmedabad.
  6. National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), Hyderabad.
  7. North-Eastern Space Applications Centre (NE-SAC), Shillong.

3.0Eligibility Criteria of YUVIKA 2025

Criteria set by the organising committee determine eligibility for the YUva VIgyani KAryakram Exam. This section outlines the eligibility requirements for the 2025 YUva VIgyani KAryakram, helping you quickly understand what is needed to qualify for the exam:

  • YUVIKA is open to students studying in Class 9 as of January 1st, 2025.

4.0How to Participate in YUva VIgyani KAryakram

The registration process for YUVIKA 2025 involves four essential steps, and candidates are encouraged to complete these steps as soon as possible to ensure their application is accepted. An incomplete application will be disqualified, especially one missing the quiz and certificate uploads.

  • Step 1: Register via email for YUVIKA-2025.
  • Step 2: Read the instructions and complete the online quiz within 48 hours of email registration.
  • Step 3: After submitting the quiz, wait at least 60 minutes before logging in to the YUVIKA portal to complete and submit the online application form. Be sure to download a copy of the submitted form.
  • Step 4: Upload a signed copy of the form and all required certificates before the registration deadline.

5.0Financial Assistance and Logistics Support

  • Travel Expenses: The selected students will be reimbursed for travel expenses (II AC train or AC bus fare by authorised transport) from the nearest railway station or bus terminal to the reporting centre and back. Students must provide the original travel tickets for reimbursement, with the condition that if travel is not by II AC train, reimbursement will be limited to the equivalent of II AC train fare.
  • Accommodation and Materials: ISRO will fully cover all course materials, lodging, and boarding during the program.

The Yuva Vigyani Karyakram was launched by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to foster scientific temper and research skills among young students by exposing them to space activities and research environments.
