National Geography Olympiad Competition

The National GEO Genius is a Geography Olympiad held every year by the IBGB Learning Society. It's a chance for students who are good at Geography to show what they know and be recognized as excellent students. It has two levels of exams, the first level happens in schools; if students do well, they can move on to the second level. 1.0What is the National Geography Olympiad by Geo Genius?

The Geo Genius Olympiad is for students from grades 2nd to 12th from the State Board, ICSE Board, CBSE Board, and International Board. The exam takes place in schools across the country.

This Olympiad is more than just memorizing facts. It encourages students to explore Geography, think critically, and solve problems. By taking part, students learn about different aspects of Geography and compete at the national level.

2.0National GEO Exam Syllabus

This Olympiad explores diverse aspects of Geography and encourages students to interact with the global environment, culture, and economy. The syllabus is divided into categories corresponding to the student's grade levels.

3.0Eligibility for the GEO Genious Exam

Students from various educational boards, such as State Board, ICSE Board, CBSE Board, and International Boards, from Class II to XII, are eligible to participate. Participants are categorized into three groups based on their grade levels:

  • Sub-Junior Category: For students in Classes 2 to 4
  • Junior Category: For students in Classes 5 to 8
  • Senior Category: For students in Classes 9 to 12

4.0Application Process for GEO Genious Exam

There are two modes of registration available for participation in the National Geography Olympiad:

Offline: School Registration

  • In this mode, students will be registered through their respective schools.
  • The external exam coordinator must complete the school registration form provided in the brochure and submit it along with the list of participating students. 
  • The necessary study materials, results, certificates, and awards will be sent directly to the school. However, the exam itself will be conducted online.

Online: Individual Registration

  • Alternatively, students can register themselves through their schools. Students can register online to participate when schools are not registered.
  • The registration form for individual online registration is accessible on the homepage under the subheading 'Geography Olympiad Registration.'

Note: Each student must choose only one registration option from the above.

5.0National Geography Olympiad India Fee Structure 

  • The National Geography Olympiad Registration Fee is Rs. 300 per student, which covers all levels of the competition. Once registered, students do not need to pay additional fees if they qualify for Level II and subsequent Level III.
  • Additionally, the Geography Olympiad Preparatory textbook, compiled by the I.B.G.B. Learning Society, is available upon request from the Society Office for Rs. 110, plus dispatch charges of Rs. 90.

6.0Geo Genius Geography Olympiad Exam Pattern

Exam patterns help you understand how questions will be asked on different topics and the marking methods used. We have provided the complete syllabus for the Geo Genius Exam.

Level I

  • Preliminary exam conducted online.
  • Tests basic geographical knowledge.
  • 40 MCQs for the sub-junior category, 50 MCQs each for Junior and Senior Category.
  • No negative marking.
  • 1 mark for a correct answer, while an incorrect answer will receive 0 marks.
  • The top 50 students from each category advance to Level II.

Level II

  • Online exam with multiple-choice and one-word answer-type questions.
  • 40 questions for the Junior Category, 50 questions each for the Junior and Senior Category.
  • The top ten students from each category in Level II qualify for Level III.

Level III

  • Online exams conducted through interactive video conferencing tools

8.0Awards for GEO Genious Exam

Students are recognized for excellence in Geography education and their achievement across three levels, with awards ranging from Certificates of Participation to prestigious Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medals. Additionally, teachers and schools are honored for their commitment to fostering geographic knowledge and participation.

Gold Medal, Certificate of Excellence, and Cash Award of Rs. 11,000.

Silver Medal, Certificate of Excellence, and Cash Award of Rs. 5,000.

Third Place

Bronze Medal, Certificate of Excellence, and Cash Award of Rs. 2,500.

Fourth and Fifth Place

Bronze Medal and Cash Award of Rs. 1,100.

It was awarded to five participants from each category.

International Representation

Four winners from the Senior Category represent India in the International Geography Olympiad.
