2.0Detailed WBJEE 2026 Exam Schedule

The exam is conducted in two separate sessions on a single day. Candidates must appear for both papers to be eligible for a General Merit Rank (GMR).

  • Paper I (Mathematics): 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM.
  • Paper II (Physics & Chemistry): 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

Important Note: Appearing for only Paper II makes a candidate eligible for a Pharmacy Merit Rank (PMR) only, which limits admission to Pharmacy courses (excluding Jadavpur University). Appearing only for Paper I results in no rank being awarded.

3.0Subject-Wise Question & Marks Distribution

The WBJEE 2026 paper is uniquely structured into three categories for each subject. Mathematics holds the highest weightage, accounting for 50% of the total marks.

4.0WBJEE 2026 Marking Scheme Deep Dive

The WBJEE Marking Scheme is designed to test accuracy and penalize random guessing in specific categories. Here is how your marks will be calculated:

Category 1: Single Correct Option

  • Correct Answer: +1 Mark.
  • Incorrect Answer: -0.25 Mark (1/4th deduction).
  • Strategy: Only attempt these if you are confident, as the penalty is 25% of the mark value.

Category 2: Single Correct Option

  • Correct Answer: +2 Marks.
  • Incorrect Answer: -0.5 Mark (1/2 deduction).
  • Strategy: These questions are high-reward but carry a significant penalty for errors.

Category 3: Multiple Correct Options

  • Correct Answer: +2 Marks (if all correct options are selected).
  • Partial Marking: Marks are awarded proportionally: 2 × (number of correct options marked ÷ total number of correct options).
  • Incorrect Answer: 0 Marks (No negative marking).
  • Strategy: Always attempt these questions! Since there is no risk of losing marks, you should always select the options you believe are correct.

Pro-Tip: In Categories 1 and 2, marking more than one option—even if one is correct—is treated as an incorrect answer and negative marking will apply.

5.0WBJEE 2026 Syllabus & Important Topics

The syllabus is primarily based on Class 11 and Class 12 NCERT topics in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

Mathematics (Paper I)

Mathematics is the most critical section for scoring a high rank.

  • Algebra: Sets, Relations, Complex Numbers, Matrices, Determinants, Probability, Permutations & Combinations.
  • Calculus: Limits, Continuity, Differentiation, Integration, Differential Equations.
  • Geometry: 2D and 3D Coordinate Geometry, Circles, Conic Sections.
  • Trigonometry: Ratios, Identities, Inverse Functions.

Physics (Paper II - Part A)

Focuses on conceptual understanding and basic numerical problems.

  • Mechanics: Laws of Motion, Work, Energy, Power, Rotational Motion, Gravitation.
  • Electromagnetism: Electrostatics, Current Electricity, Magnetic Effects of Current, Electromagnetic Induction.
  • Optics & Modern Physics: Ray Optics, Wave Optics, Nuclear Physics, Atomic Models.

Chemistry (Paper II - Part B)

Requires a balance between Physical, Organic, and Inorganic Chemistry.

  • Physical Chemistry: Atomic Structure, Chemical Bonding, Thermodynamics, Chemical Kinetics, Equilibrium.
  • Inorganic Chemistry: p-Block Elements, d & f Block Elements, Coordination Compounds.
  • Organic Chemistry: Hydrocarbons, Alcohols, Phenols, Ethers, Carboxylic Acids.

6.0Subject-Wise Chapter Weightage (High Volume Topics)

Strategic preparation involves focusing on high-weightage chapters that frequently appear in the exam.

Subject

Important Topics

Expected Weightage

Mathematics

Vectors, Probability, 3D Geometry, Calculus

5% - 7% per topic

Physics

Current Electricity, Electrostatics, Thermodynamics

6% - 7% per topic

Chemistry

Chemical Kinetics, p-Block, Chemical Bonding

6% - 7% per topic

7.0Essential OMR Sheet Instructions

Since WBJEE is an OMR-based offline exam, technical precision is vital to ensure your paper is evaluated correctly.

  1. Use the Right Pen: Use only a blue or black ballpoint pen. Gel pens and pencils are strictly prohibited as they can cause scanner errors.
  2. Darken Completely: Ensure the circle is filled from edge to edge. Do not use ticks, crosses, or half-filled circles.
  3. No Corrections: Once marked, a response cannot be changed or edited. Correction fluid (whitener) is not allowed as it can damage the high-speed scanners.
  4. Avoid "Thinking Dots": Do not rest your pen on the paper while reading; even a small ink mark might be registered by the high-sensitivity sensors as an "ambiguous response".
  5. Booklet Series: Carefully bubble your Question Booklet Series (e.g., Series A or B). Grading is based on this code, and errors cannot be manually corrected.

8.0Special Facilities for PwD Candidates

WBJEEB provides specific accommodations for Persons with Disabilities (PwD) with a benchmark disability of at least 40%:

  • Extra Time: PwD candidates receive an additional 20 minutes per hour. This means a 2-hour paper becomes 2 hours and 40 minutes.
  • Scribe Facility: Candidates can apply for a scribe/writer by submitting a written application to the Board at least 60 days before the exam.
  • Location: Special arrangements for PwD candidates are typically conducted at the Board Office in Kolkata.

9.0Recommended Books for WBJEE 2026

To master the WBJEE 2026 Exam Pattern, you need the right resources:

  • Physics: Concepts of Physics by H.C. Verma; Problems in General Physics by I.E. Irodov.
  • Chemistry: Organic Chemistry by O.P. Tandon; NCERT Chemistry (Class 11 & 12).
